Blockchain is a type of distributed ledger technology (DLT) that is used to record transactions across a network of computers. It is most commonly associated with the digital currency, Bitcoin, but it can be used for a wide variety of other applications as well. A blockchain is essentially a database that is maintained by a network of users, rather than a centralized authority. Each block in the chain contains a number of transactions, and once a block is added to the chain, the data it contains cannot be altered. This creates a permanent, tamper-proof record of all transactions on the network.
